1. What is Munzee?
Answer (Click to collapse / expand)
Munzee is the next generation in global scavenger hunt games. Simply download the free APP, scan the munzees you find, and score points. The game is similar to Geocaching but uses QR code technology, in addition to device GPS location, to prove the find instead of a logbook. Launched in Texas in 2011, the game caught on first in Germany, along with California and Michigan. It is now played in more than 188 countries around the world, and there is at least one physical Munzee deployed on every continent, including Antarctica.
The places are marked by other players using QR codes, which are hidden and often printed on weatherproof stickers. The places can also be marked by a NFC tag. These stickers are called Munzees. Both the finding and the hiding players receive points for deploying and finding Munzees. The QR codes on the Munzees are read by means of a smartphone APP for IOS, Android or Windows. The coordinates of the Munzees as well as the data of the players are managed via the central web platform.
Virtual Munzees are also available for purchase. These also appear in APP lists and on maps, and they are "captured" by locating the APP device within 300 feet of the designated location. The device must also be within 300 feet of a QR code Munzee to verify "capture."
2. What is a Munzee?
Answer (Click to collapse / expand)
Munzees can consist of any material; they must have at minimum a QR-code and physically meet the conditions of the location (waterproof, weatherproof, etc.). Munzees either can be self generated and printed or be purchased via the web store. NFC Munzees and Virtual Munzees can be purchased from the web store.
To generate or to order Munzees one has to be logged in on the central platform with a unique user name. When generating a Munzee, the platform creates a web link, over which the generated Munzee can be managed. This web link is represented as a QR code on the Munzee. A descriptive name and an arbitrarily long comment can be assigned to the Munzee as properties. Both are stored on the central platform (not in the QR code) and can be changed later.
After a Munzee is physically created, it can be hidden anywhere outdoors and then deployed via the APP Business Munzees are also available which are deployed inside a business. Once the Munzee has been deployed it goes live on the map and is ready to be found or "captured" by other players.
The coordinates of all globally mounted Munzees are managed on the game platform at munzee.com. Players navigate themselves to the general location of a Munzee by accessing the map with a smartphone. When they find a Munzee, they capture it by scanning the QR code. The smartphone APP sends the data scanned along with current coordinates to the central system which records the capture. The finder and the player that deployed the Munzee each earn points.

5. What is a NFC Munzee & how do I deploy one?
Answer (Click to collapse / expand)
A NFC Munzee is a special Munzee which uses NFC (near-field communication), This allows two devices placed within a few centimeters of each other to exchange data. The two devices in Munzees case are your NFC equipped phone and a NFC chip.
Watch this video to learn how to deploy a NFC Munzee:
Note: Only certain phones allow you to capture and deploy a NFC Munzee: An APPLE phone will not work, iPhones 6 and 6+ have the chip but it is not activated. Most Android phones built from late 2012 on has the chip.
NFC Phones: The definitive list - This is an exhaustive, comprehensive and accurate list of all the handsets that are available around the world.
The NFC tags need to be Type-2 so they can be locked. When you deploy the Munzee the APP automatically locks it.
Go To Tags: Anti-Metal NFC Sticker - Ultralight - A blank white anti-metal NFC sticker that is held in stock and ready to ship. They have a glossy water-resistant finish. The Ultralight NFC chip is embedded inside.
Rapid NFC: On Metal NFC Tags - Conventional NFC tags do not work when applied directly to metal surfaces. These 'on-metal' tags are designed especially to work on non-metal and metal surfaces. Available from stock or with your own custom print graphics.
The Trail Munzee is a Munzee you purchase in the Munzee store. It is a credit applied to your account and used for conversion of regular "greenie" munzees. You can see your available credits at www.munzee.com/credits
A Munzee Trail is five munzees that must be deployed within a 5 mile radius of the starting point. Each Munzee must be deployed at least 1000 feet from other Trail munzees.
Points increase as you progress through the trail. Stops one and two are worth 5 points for capture and owner cap on. Stops three and four are worth 10 points for capture and owner cap on. Stop five is worth 30 points for capture for completing the trail, and 30 points for owner cap on for creating a good trail.
The goal of the Trail Munzee is to move beyond the light pole, the street sign, and the parking lot. Create a trail that leads other players to something worth seeing. Lead them on a tour of your favorite local places. Take them to places that are off the beaten path.
Trail Munzee Tutorial Video:
A simple way to do it: (Thank you Karen 'Elewys' Draper Ostheller):
Step 1: I used the sandbox to plan where to place them (if you do not have a premium membership, then it makes it a bit more complicated, but you can estimate distances (1000 ft. is about 2 blocks). This was just to help find a good spot and get an idea where the tags might get placed.
Step 2: I went out and placed the generic greenies on the Trail and labeled them "Trail 1", "Trail 2", etc.
Step 3: When I got home, I opened up the Munzee.com web page and converted the greenies to Trail Munzees. Done!
8. How do I deploy a Hotel Munzee from my phone?
Answer (Click to collapse / expand)
After you deploy your greenie you have a couple of choices, you can:
1. Go to your deploys page at Munzee.com and open the one you want to convert and then click on convert and then choose hotel or you can
2.use an external qr code scanner and rescan it and have it take you directly to that munzees page and then do the convert. (Ryan Rokey 2/12/15)
9. What is a secure social Munzee?
Answer (Click to collapse / expand)
A secure social is a social Munzee where the secret 6 character code changes after each capture. Secure socials are frequently used for socials used for trade only, puzzles, virtual gardens, and achievements. Since the secret 6 character code along with the QR code design changes after each capture, secure social munzees should not be printed.
10. How do I compare my found Social Munzees with another players?
12. On picture only, trade only or achievement social munzees where do you find the QR code to scan?
Answer (Click to collapse / expand)
Some Social Munzees are private, so you cannot scan them unless you ask or trade or achieve something.
If you see a Munzee like this one: http://www.munzee.com/m/FrankBroughton/2353/ notice there is nothing to scan, you would need to get the Secret Code (last 6 digits of the Munzee) and enter that data into a QR Code generator to create a QR Code to scan.
Most Social Munzees have a QR Code to scan right on the Social Munzee image, some do not. On some Social Munzees that just list a picture, look to the bottom on the Munzee Page of that Social Munzee, you might see a code that says something like: http://www.munzee.com/m/Jellybean88/669/N2T77I/ You take that code and plug it into a QR Code generator. See below how to do that.
Others you need to accomplish something get the secret code to be able to generate a QR Code to scan. There is a Facebook group just for this purpose: The Munzee Achievement Social Group
There also are Trade Only Social Munzees, there is a Facebook Group for these too: Social Munzees - Trade Only. For these you must have your own Trade Only Munzee and request a trade with someone who also has a Trade Only Social Munzee.
Once you make a trade or accomplish a goal and someone sends you a secret code (I.E. http://www.munzee.com/m/FrankBroughton/30/M199FX/ Secret Code is in Bold.) You take that code and enter it into a QR Code Generator to create a scannable QR Code for that particular Social Munzee. See the example here:
You can use Munzee's website to generate the scannable QR Code, place the full URL code after this: http://www.munzee.com/code/?"full URL code goes here"
Bulk QR Code Generator - QRExplore.com's page allows you to generate up to 100 QR codes (more with an unlock code), and gives you the option of downloading all of them in a .zip file.

14. Okay, I committed to joining a clan, what is the process to join up?
Answer (Click to collapse / expand)
The clan battles run from the 3rd of each month until the last day of the month. During that time all the player accounts on the clans are locked into their specific clans. On the first of each month, that lock is removed and people can be added to the clans. What happens is this: an admin from the clan you committed to will add your name to the invite list, using the admin section of the clan control panel on the munzee.com website. What that does is send you an invite to join the clan via the E-mail address you have on file in your Munzee profile. That E-mail will give you a URL link to click on that will send you to the clan page. There will be an Accept button that you will need to click on and then you are on that clan. Be careful not to click on the remove button after that time, as you are not locked into that clan until the battle starts on the third. A second way is this: if you know the URL for the clan you are joining, you can go there in your browser If the admin has added you to the invite list, there will be an accept button for you to click on just like the link in the E-mail.
